After playing drums for the school and various band try-outs, a guitar found its way to me in about 1983 and within a couple of years I'd formed my first 'proper' band in my hometown of Reading. After a string of recording sessions, endless gigs and a performance on a newly-launched Sky TV show, we disbanded and formed a more grown up version of ourselves called Blueboy. This was the early 1990s so posting demo cassettes to record labels was still common practice which luckily for us, resulted in a recording deal with the now legendary Sarah Records.
We toured the UK, France and Japan and recorded three albums and a John Peel session during a very active writing and performing period of about four years.
Time for a change again and this time we re-invented ourselves as a fantasy jazz pop outfit with a collective of singers and musicians called Beaumont. Sarah had ceased by then so this time we were signed to Spanish indie label Siesta Records and recorded three albums and a handful of ep singles.
In addition to the records and live shows, I was approached to compose and record a suite of 8 songs for New York fashion label Kate Spade. This resulted in the production of a limited edition CD album 'Kate Spade Music' sold exclusively through their stores. It was launched with a tour across the US playing as a quartet which got picked up by American Vogue.
So, from the ashes of those years of writing and recording, I have emerged as an instrumentalist writing and producing my own compositions and have brought it together under the name Sepia Sound. On this site you can hear samples, download tracks and contact me for any film, TV or commission work.
